HINDU GOD AND GODDESS COUPLES
Hinduism is known as the world's oldest organized religion. They believe that other Gods and Goddesses are avatars or aspects of the one and only true God. Each God and Goddess has a story and a special meaning behind why they are being worshiped. These Gods and Goddesses have also formed romantic relationships with each other.
Brahma is the creator between the holy trinity in Hinduism. He is the source of space, time, action, names and forms, has many different designations. Brahma was believed to be born from a (kamala) lotus springing from Vishnu's navel. He is the single letter
AUM, and the uncreated creator
the self-born first person. Brahma was originally to have had five heads. One of them was cut down by Shiva in his rage because Brahma lied to Vishnu. Brahma's mind born sons are the seers Marici, Atri, Angiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratuj, Pracetas, Vashishta, Bhrgu and Narada. From Brahma's body came his nine sons Daksa, Dharma, Kama, Anger, Greed, Delusion (Maya), Lust, Joy, Death and Bharata and one daughter called Angaja.
Saraswati, goddess of knowledge and the arts, represents the wisdom of Devi. She is the river of awareness that brightens up creation; she is the dawn-goddess whose rays dispel the darkness of ignorance. Without her there is only chaos and confusion. Saraswati never wears jewels or paints herself with bright colors she always wears white to show her purity. To create the world and make the human race, Brahman made a goddess out of himself. One half was a woman and the other half was a male. Brahma called the woman Saraswati.
BRAHMA AND SARASWATI’S STORY:
Saraswati was the only being that was in Brahma’s world so he began looking at her with lust in his eyes. Saraswati disapproved of any kind of relationship with Brahma. But he could not control his amorous thought and his desire and infatuation grew stronger and stronger for Saraswati. He gave himself four heads so he could always face Saraswati so he could keep his eyes on her. Saraswati was displeased and tried escaping Brahma by forming into a cow but Brahma followed her becoming a bull. She changed into a mare, but Brahma turned into a horse. Even when she turned into a bird or a beast he was always there playing the male counterpart. But no matter how hard Brahma tried he could not catch his love, Saraswati in any form. Brahma’s chase for Saraswati disturbed the serenity of the cosmos and made Shiva angry. Shiva sensed Saraswati’s discomfort and went into and angry rage and cut of Brahma’s fifth head. Saraswati was pleased with Shiva’s actions and rescued Brahma and nursed him back to his sanity. Brahma went to conduct a fire sacrifice (
) to cleanse himself and start fresh. But in order to conduct a fire sacrifice there needs to be assistance with a wife. Brahma chose Saraswati to be his wife and they were reconciled.
My opinion is that Bhrama and Saraswati's love was first lust, because he only based his relationship on her looks. He didnt get to know the real her. It was morally wrong because Brahma is Saraswati's father. But in the end his devotion towards her and his willingness to change won her love for him. So I think that Brahma and Saraswati are a very amazing couple that believe in second chances.
